Biography:
Town of Saints are an extraordinary Dutch/Finnish indie folk band, renowned for their heartfelt roots music and dazzling performances. Despite their short existence they have already impressed ecstatic audiences throughout Europe with a well balanced mix of traditional folk influences, contemporary indie and punk attitude.
The band consists of singer/guitarist Harmen Ridderbos (Netherlands) and fiddle player Heta Salkolahti (Finland), who met at an international songwriters workshop in Innsbrück, Austria. They are often joined by a variety of guest musicians (mandolin, upright bass, percussion, strings and electric guitar) from either the Netherlands or Finland.
After the two met in Austria, they were inspired to form a band and go busking on the streets of Europe, with a good friend. In the summer of 2010 the band played on the streets of many major European cities, such as Paris, Prague, Berlin and Munich.
In the year following this adventurous summer, the band grew a lot, both musically and in their live performances. They started playing festivals (Melodica Hamburg & Berlin, Kantfest, Eurosonic) and touring around in the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, The UK & Ireland, Slovenia and France and transformed into an experienced and exhilarating live band.
As far as their music is concerned, Town of Saints are known for their heartfelt folk songs and infectious melodies, with the likes of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes and Mumford & Sons. Increasingly, indie rock influences from bands like Arcade Fire and Fleet Foxes are starting to seep into the band’s music.
Also the band is known for their animated performances. The fast paced frenzy of fiddle strings and the sheer joy the two effortlessly exude on stage, never fails to get the audience on their feet. A perfect match for an audience ready to indulge in energetic live music.
Discography:
In November of 2011, Town of Saints released an EP called ‘Never Sleep.’ The CD was released at the Melodica Hamburg festival, and at BalconyTV (

This album, which is mostly recorded live and features a choir of some of the band’s closest friends, received positive reviews in the Dutch press:
“Exuberantly grinding folk pop, raw energy with strong lead vocals and dizzying fiddle playing. Four out of five stars” (Dagblad van het Noorden)
“Energetic outbursts with here and there a quiet moment of magic.” (

“The vocal harmonies are impressive. The songs stand out due to pleasant and catchy melodies, excellently performed with Harmen’s distinctive vocals combined with subtle additions on Heta’s account.” (

At the moment Town of Saints is recording songs with various guest musicians for their debut album. These songs will be recorded in Finland, Germany and the Netherlands and will feature mainly new songs and many of the band’s good friends.
The recordings should be ready by the end of this year and the band plan to release the album before the end of next winter. In the meantime, an extended version of the Never Sleep EP will be available on the website and at concerts.
